Creative Commons

Now here is a good site to use if you are interested on putting your works out into the world. Creative Commons is a nonprofit organization that gives submitters to their site, special copyrights on their works. These copyrights allow for limited reuse of your work, they believe in collaboration. The motto of creative commons is "Share remix reuse-legally". So if you are interested in collaboration on your pieces or collaborating on someone else's I suggest going to this site and getting some of your works copyrighted by them. Oh and did I mention its free.

creativewritingprompts.com

This site has some awesome prompts the one that caught my eye today, that I think I might write my next story about is, use the words: plastic bottle dirty handkerchief, crumpled note, unhinged door in your story

Writing.com

As promised I have joined writing.com and it is quite the site. It gives you access to a hearty list of newsletters for your email, and none of them are checked off to begin with so you do not get spammed. When joining they seem to ask for a lot of info about you but it is with good reason. This site is no joke it has a portfolio option and it automatically copyrights anything you put in it. They are serious about plagiarism so no posting something funny you got in an email or a google image to head up your work or something. Oh and did i mention it is free, because it is completely free, and easy.
Navigating the site could be easier but it is far from hard to manage on, and it has the open of using writingML tags in anything you type to spice up the work. When submitting a work to your portfolio they ask a lot of detailed questions about it to help people find and understand it, it is quite useful.
I have a knack for writing expansive pieces and as a write I like plot a great deal. So here is some advice if you are like me and prefer the short story to the poem but you have to write some poetry. Tell a story a poem does not have to have a plot but mine do, forget about about structure rhythm and rhyme and focus on imagery, through similes and metaphors.

Also for fun try some writing in the second person I have recently written a short story and a poem on this and they both came out quite well.

Some inspiration from Kurt Vonnegut

My favorite writer Kurt Vonnegut once said:
If you can do a half-assed job of anything, you're a one-eyed man in a kingdom of the blind.

Creative writing a start

So I have an interest in creative writing and am considering it as a career, I will discuss this in this blog and talk about sites that help me with the field and finding employment in it. This is not just for me but for anyone interested feel free to share your own thoughts.

As a start http://fictionwriting.about.com/ is a good site for an overview on writing and a great deal of things related. From getting started to styles, to getting published.

If you are looking for some inspiration http://www.creativewritingprompts.com/ is a great place for inspiring prompts to get a good idea and get a story started.

And if you are looking for a community of writers check out writing.com its right in the name, you do have to sign up but I will look into it and report back.

So there is the long and short of it to use a colloquialism.

I have decided to dedicate this blog largely to the creative writing field and issues and work within it, look for this in the future and if you have any suggestions or stories feel free.
